0:41 - 0:45that which is the source of creation.

0:45 - 0:49Kriya means an inward action towards that.

0:49 - 0:55Karma means outward action, if you
perform action with your body, -
0:55 - 0:56or your mind,
-
0:56 - 1:01or your emotion, or your physical
energies we call it karma. -
1:01 - 1:06If you perform an inward action which
does not involve any of these -
1:06 - 1:10then we call this Kriya.

1:10 - 1:13So Isha Kriya is
-
1:13 - 1:15an extremely simple process
-
1:15 - 1:18but a powerful
-
1:18 - 1:20tool
-
1:20 - 1:21to constantly move
-
1:21 - 1:24from untruth to truth.
-
1:24 - 1:28There are more complex and effective
processes but -
1:28 - 1:30it needs preparation,
-
1:30 - 1:33it needs a certain type of teaching.
-
1:33 - 1:34It needs
-
1:34 - 1:40a lot of training for somebody to teach
it. -
1:40 - 1:43But this is a process..
-
1:43 - 1:44generally,
-
1:44 - 1:47all the processes, spiritual processes
which move -
1:47 - 1:49a person in this direction
-
1:49 - 1:53also involve physiological changes.
-
1:53 - 1:58Wherever physiological changes are involved
it's extremely important -
1:58 - 2:02that the teacher is substantially trained.
-
2:02 - 2:03Otherwise
-
2:03 - 2:08you will start generating the wacky
kind of yogas that are going on -
2:08 - 2:10all over the place.
-
2:10 - 2:12Which can cause more damage than
-
2:12 - 2:14well-being.
-
2:14 - 2:18But those aspects,
-
2:18 - 2:23those processes which does not involve
any kind of physiological change -
2:23 - 2:27but brings about a spiritual transformation,
-
2:27 - 2:28which are very few,
-
2:28 - 2:32those can be taught mass.
-
2:32 - 2:35And we can empower almost anybody
-
2:35 - 2:40who at least has a little good intention in
his thought and emotion to teach it. -
2:40 - 2:42That much is there
-
2:42 - 2:46they can teach.
-
2:48 - 2:52We will do this process right now;
you need to understand a little bit -
2:52 - 2:55about what this is.
-
2:55 - 2:58Is everybody breathing here right now?
-
2:58 - 3:01Please check. (audience laughter)

3:01 - 3:03Don't take things for granted.
-
3:03 - 3:06Doesn't go on forever, it'll stop some
day, you know. -
3:06 - 3:10Are you breathing right now? You? Hmm?
-
3:10 - 3:16Please check; don't just take it
for granted. Are you really breathing? -
3:16 - 3:17You're there,okay?
-
3:17 - 3:19This inhalation,
-
3:19 - 3:20exhalation,
-
3:20 - 3:22inhalation,
-
3:22 - 3:23exhalation,
-
3:23 - 3:24inhalation,
-
3:24 - 3:28exhalation..
-
3:28 - 3:29Next inhalation did not happen,
-
3:29 - 3:32pooff (clicks fingers) you're gone.
-
3:32 - 3:35See how fragile you are.
-
3:35 - 3:40Just, if this one inhalation does not
go, pooff.. -
3:40 - 3:45where ever we look you won't be around.
-
3:45 - 3:46At the same time,
-
3:46 - 3:50so fragile human life is, at the
same time -
3:50 - 3:57how sturdy it is; how many things a human
being can do in this world. -
3:57 - 4:00On one level it seems to be so fragile,
-
4:00 - 4:06just look at it and see.
-
4:07 - 4:10It doesn't come back, pooff.
-
4:10 - 4:12Too fragile isn't it?
-
4:12 - 4:14You've taken it for granted, you're not
conscious about it. -
4:14 - 4:17If you become conscious and watch it
-
4:17 - 4:21it's a damn fragile life.
-
4:21 - 4:24At the same time how sturdy it is,
-
4:24 - 4:29how many things it can do.
-
4:29 - 4:31This is the beauty of creation,
-
4:31 - 4:35everything is tenderly balanced.
-
4:35 - 4:39So tenderly you cannot disturb it.
-
4:39 - 4:42Not easily, you know.
-
4:42 - 4:46The whole creation is like this. It's
just like that. -
4:46 - 4:47That shows
-
4:47 - 4:52the mastery of the Creator.
-
4:54 - 4:56It is so tenderly balanced,
-
4:56 - 4:57that means..
-
4:57 - 4:58that shows
-
4:58 - 5:00that manifests
-
5:00 - 5:05the mastery of the Creator. That which
creates is of such mastery -
5:05 - 5:10that it can afford to keep it
so tender. -
5:10 - 5:12So that is the audacity of the Creator,
-
5:12 - 5:18one breath if you do not inhale you're gone...but,
-
5:20 - 5:22that's
-
5:22 - 5:25the confidence in design
-
5:25 - 5:29that the Creator has.
-
5:30 - 5:33So this breath is not just about
-
5:33 - 5:38exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide.
-
5:38 - 5:39In yoga
-
5:39 - 5:43we call this the Koorma Nadi.
-
5:43 - 5:45Breath is referred to as the Koorma Nadi.
-
5:45 - 5:48Now..
-
5:49 - 5:51if I ask you to watch your breath,
-
5:51 - 5:56which is the most common thing that people
are doing these days. -
5:56 - 6:00You don't get to watch the breath,
you think you're watching the breath, -
6:00 - 6:01but you're not watching the breath.
-
6:01 - 6:05You're only able to notice the
sensations caused -
6:05 - 6:08by the movement of the air.
-
6:08 - 6:14If one who is sitting next to you
touches your hand, you think -
6:14 - 6:18you know the touch of the other person
but you do not know. You only know -
6:18 - 6:22the sensations generated within your
body. -
6:22 - 6:27You do not know how the other feels,
-
6:27 - 6:32you only know what kind of sensation
happened in your body. -
6:32 - 6:35Yeah? Understand what I'm saying?
-
6:35 - 6:36So right now
-
6:36 - 6:38you do not know the breath,
-
6:38 - 6:43you only know the sensations caused by
the breath. -
6:43 - 6:46So when we say Koorma Nadi we are not
talking about the sensations, -
6:46 - 6:50we are talking about the breath itself.
-
6:50 - 6:52Koorma Nadi is referred to as a string,
-
6:52 - 6:55it's like a string.
-
6:55 - 6:57An unbroken string,
-
6:57 - 6:59it's going on.
-
6:59 - 7:01And this is the string
-
7:01 - 7:02which ties you
-
7:02 - 7:05with this body.
-
7:05 - 7:07If I take away your breath,
-
7:07 - 7:11you and your body will fall apart.
-
7:11 - 7:17What you thought is one will become two,
that is the first deception. -
7:17 - 7:19There are two,
-
7:19 - 7:21behaving like one,
-
7:21 - 7:25a deception is on.
-
7:25 - 7:27So if I pull out the breath,
-
7:27 - 7:31you and your body will fall apart.
-
7:31 - 7:34We don't want it to fall apart
-
7:34 - 7:37but if your consciousness travels with
the breath. -
7:37 - 7:39If your awareness
-
7:39 - 7:43travels with the passage of the breath
keenly enough -
7:43 - 7:44then you will see..
-
7:44 - 7:46distinctly see,
-
7:46 - 7:48these two are not one.
-
7:48 - 7:52What is you and what is your body will
stand apart. -
7:52 - 7:55What is you and what is your mind will
stand apart. -
7:55 - 8:01If you and your body/mind combination
-
8:01 - 8:03stand away from each other
-
8:03 - 8:06then suddenly you will find,
-
8:06 - 8:09your ability to use your body and your
mind -
8:09 - 8:12goes into a phenomenal scale.
-
8:12 - 8:14If right now,
-
8:14 - 8:17if you have to count from one to ten
-
8:17 - 8:19right...the highest is ten,
-
8:19 - 8:20if that is so,
-
8:20 - 8:25if you're attached or if you're involved
with this body you're less than one, -
8:25 - 8:27that's where it is.
-
8:27 - 8:31If these two things come apart, suddenly
you can rev it up all the way -
8:31 - 8:34to ten, your ability to use the
mind and the body -
8:34 - 8:36is so greatly enhanced that
-
8:36 - 8:40you almost look superhuman for
somebody else. -
8:40 - 8:44But I'm telling you this is human. This
is not about being -
8:44 - 8:46superhuman,
-
8:46 - 8:52this is about realizing being human
is super. -
8:52 - 8:53Yes..
-
8:53 - 9:00Not a simple thing to be human.
-
9:00 - 9:04Now the Isha Kriya just involves this;
-
9:04 - 9:09Your thought is playing a very important
role in your life right now -
9:09 - 9:11so let's employ that.
-
9:11 - 9:13And your breath is vital,
-
9:13 - 9:16so let's employ that.
-
9:16 - 9:21And without your awareness you
wouldn't know that you are even here -
9:21 - 9:23right now. Hmm?
-
9:23 - 9:27If you're not aware you do not even know
whether you're alive or dead, -
9:27 - 9:30or whether you exist or not.
-
9:30 - 9:32So these three ingredients
-
9:32 - 9:33your breath,
-
9:33 - 9:39your thought, and your awareness, in the
right combination, if you use them -
9:39 - 9:43you will see slowly a little bit of
distance arises between you and -
9:43 - 9:45your body.

9:45 - 9:46Now..
-
9:46 - 9:52you're very distinctly moving from
untruth to truth. -
