Introduction to Isha Kriya - Free Guided Meditation with Sadhguru

  • 0:00 - 0:02
    Isha Kriya
  • 0:02 - 0:06
A powerful spiritual process for everyday practice
  • 0:07 - 0:10
Isha Kriya is part of a movement
  • 0:10 - 0:13
to offer at least one drop of
    spirituality
  • 0:13 - 0:17
to every human being on the planet.
  • 0:18 - 0:21
Do not underestimate the size of the
    drop.
  • 0:21 - 0:25
A drop is an ocean by itself.
  • 0:25 - 0:29
This is a powerful tool of empowerment.
  • 0:29 - 0:31
We hope that you allow it to touch and
  • 0:31 - 0:33
    transform your life
  • 0:33 - 0:38
and share it with as many as you can.
  • 0:40 - 0:41
    Isha means
  • 0:41 - 0:45
that which is the source of creation.
  • 0:45 - 0:49
Kriya means an inward action towards that.
  • 0:49 - 0:55
Karma means outward action, if you
    perform action with your body,
  • 0:55 - 0:56
    or your mind,
  • 0:56 - 1:01
or your emotion, or your physical
    energies we call it karma.
  • 1:01 - 1:06
If you perform an inward action which
does not involve any of these
  • 1:06 - 1:10
    then we call this Kriya.
  • 1:10 - 1:13
    So Isha Kriya is
  • 1:13 - 1:15
    an extremely simple process
  • 1:15 - 1:18
    but a powerful
  • 1:18 - 1:20
    tool
  • 1:20 - 1:21
    to constantly move
  • 1:21 - 1:24
    from untruth to truth.
  • 1:24 - 1:28
There are more complex and effective
    processes but
  • 1:28 - 1:30
    it needs preparation,
  • 1:30 - 1:33
it needs a certain type of teaching.
  • 1:33 - 1:34
    It needs
  • 1:34 - 1:40
a lot of training for somebody to teach
    it.
  • 1:40 - 1:43
    But this is a process..
  • 1:43 - 1:44
    generally,
  • 1:44 - 1:47
    all the processes, spiritual processes
    which move
  • 1:47 - 1:49
    a person in this direction
  • 1:49 - 1:53
    also involve physiological changes.
  • 1:53 - 1:58
    Wherever physiological changes are involved
    it's extremely important
  • 1:58 - 2:02
that the teacher is substantially trained.
  • 2:02 - 2:03
    Otherwise
  • 2:03 - 2:08
you will start generating the wacky
kind of yogas that are going on
  • 2:08 - 2:10
    all over the place.
  • 2:10 - 2:12
Which can cause more damage than
  • 2:12 - 2:14
    well-being.
  • 2:14 - 2:18
    But those aspects,
  • 2:18 - 2:23
those processes which does not involve
    any kind of physiological change
  • 2:23 - 2:27
but brings about a spiritual transformation,
  • 2:27 - 2:28
    which are very few,
  • 2:28 - 2:32
    those can be taught mass.
  • 2:32 - 2:35
And we can empower almost anybody
  • 2:35 - 2:40
who at least has a little good intention in
his thought and emotion to teach it.
  • 2:40 - 2:42
    That much is there
  • 2:42 - 2:46
    they can teach.
  • 2:48 - 2:52
    We will do this process right now;
you need to understand a little bit
  • 2:52 - 2:55
    about what this is.
  • 2:55 - 2:58
Is everybody breathing here right now?
  • 2:58 - 3:01
    Please check. (audience laughter)
  • 3:01 - 3:03
    Don't take things for granted.
  • 3:03 - 3:06
Doesn't go on forever, it'll stop some
    day, you know.
  • 3:06 - 3:10
Are you breathing right now? You? Hmm?
  • 3:10 - 3:16
Please check; don't just take it
for granted. Are you really breathing?
  • 3:16 - 3:17
    You're there,okay?
  • 3:17 - 3:19
    This inhalation,
  • 3:19 - 3:20
    exhalation,
  • 3:20 - 3:22
    inhalation,
  • 3:22 - 3:23
    exhalation,
  • 3:23 - 3:24
    inhalation,
  • 3:24 - 3:28
    exhalation..
  • 3:28 - 3:29
    Next inhalation did not happen,
  • 3:29 - 3:32
    pooff (clicks fingers) you're gone.
  • 3:32 - 3:35
    See how fragile you are.
  • 3:35 - 3:40
Just, if this one inhalation does not
    go, pooff..
  • 3:40 - 3:45
where ever we look you won't be around.
  • 3:45 - 3:46
    At the same time,
  • 3:46 - 3:50
so fragile human life is, at the
    same time
  • 3:50 - 3:57
how sturdy it is; how many things a human
being can do in this world.
  • 3:57 - 4:00
On one level it seems to be so fragile,
  • 4:00 - 4:06
just look at it and see.
  • 4:07 - 4:10
    It doesn't come back, pooff.
  • 4:10 - 4:12
    Too fragile isn't it?
  • 4:12 - 4:14
You've taken it for granted, you're not
    conscious about it.
  • 4:14 - 4:17
If you become conscious and watch it
  • 4:17 - 4:21
    it's a damn fragile life.
  • 4:21 - 4:24
At the same time how sturdy it is,
  • 4:24 - 4:29
how many things it can do.
  • 4:29 - 4:31
This is the beauty of creation,
  • 4:31 - 4:35
    everything is tenderly balanced.
  • 4:35 - 4:39
So tenderly you cannot disturb it.
  • 4:39 - 4:42
    Not easily, you know.
  • 4:42 - 4:46
The whole creation is like this. It's
    just like that.
  • 4:46 - 4:47
    That shows
  • 4:47 - 4:52
    the mastery of the Creator.
  • 4:54 - 4:56
    It is so tenderly balanced,
  • 4:56 - 4:57
    that means..
  • 4:57 - 4:58
    that shows
  • 4:58 - 5:00
    that manifests
  • 5:00 - 5:05
the mastery of the Creator. That which
    creates is of such mastery
  • 5:05 - 5:10
that it can afford to keep it
    so tender.
  • 5:10 - 5:12
So that is the audacity of the Creator,
  • 5:12 - 5:18
one breath if you do not inhale you're gone...but,
  • 5:20 - 5:22
    that's
  • 5:22 - 5:25
    the confidence in design
  • 5:25 - 5:29
    that the Creator has.
  • 5:30 - 5:33
So this breath is not just about
  • 5:33 - 5:38
exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide.
  • 5:38 - 5:39
    In yoga
  • 5:39 - 5:43
we call this the Koorma Nadi.
  • 5:43 - 5:45
Breath is referred to as the Koorma Nadi.
  • 5:45 - 5:48
    Now..
  • 5:49 - 5:51
if I ask you to watch your breath,
  • 5:51 - 5:56
which is the most common thing that people
    are doing these days.
  • 5:56 - 6:00
You don't get to watch the breath,
you think you're watching the breath,
  • 6:00 - 6:01
but you're not watching the breath.
  • 6:01 - 6:05
You're only able to notice the
    sensations caused
  • 6:05 - 6:08
by the movement of the air.
  • 6:08 - 6:14
If one who is sitting next to you
    touches your hand, you think
  • 6:14 - 6:18
you know the touch of the other person
but you do not know. You only know
  • 6:18 - 6:22
    the sensations generated within your
    body.
  • 6:22 - 6:27
You do not know how the other feels,
  • 6:27 - 6:32
you only know what kind of sensation
    happened in your body.
  • 6:32 - 6:35
    Yeah? Understand what I'm saying?
  • 6:35 - 6:36
    So right now
  • 6:36 - 6:38
you do not know the breath,
  • 6:38 - 6:43
you only know the sensations caused by
    the breath.
  • 6:43 - 6:46
So when we say Koorma Nadi we are not
    talking about the sensations,
  • 6:46 - 6:50
we are talking about the breath itself.
  • 6:50 - 6:52
Koorma Nadi is referred to as a string,
  • 6:52 - 6:55
    it's like a string.
  • 6:55 - 6:57
    An unbroken string,
  • 6:57 - 6:59
    it's going on.
  • 6:59 - 7:01
    And this is the string
  • 7:01 - 7:02
    which ties you
  • 7:02 - 7:05
    with this body.
  • 7:05 - 7:07
If I take away your breath,
  • 7:07 - 7:11
you and your body will fall apart.
  • 7:11 - 7:17
What you thought is one will become two,
    that is the first deception.
  • 7:17 - 7:19
    There are two,
  • 7:19 - 7:21
    behaving like one,
  • 7:21 - 7:25
    a deception is on.
  • 7:25 - 7:27
So if I pull out the breath,
  • 7:27 - 7:31
you and your body will fall apart.
  • 7:31 - 7:34
We don't want it to fall apart
  • 7:34 - 7:37
but if your consciousness travels with
    the breath.
  • 7:37 - 7:39
    If your awareness
  • 7:39 - 7:43
travels with the passage of the breath
    keenly enough
  • 7:43 - 7:44
    then you will see..
  • 7:44 - 7:46
    distinctly see,
  • 7:46 - 7:48
    these two are not one.
  • 7:48 - 7:52
What is you and what is your body will
    stand apart.
  • 7:52 - 7:55
What is you and what is your mind will
    stand apart.
  • 7:55 - 8:01
If you and your body/mind combination
  • 8:01 - 8:03
    stand away from each other
  • 8:03 - 8:06
    then suddenly you will find,
  • 8:06 - 8:09
your ability to use your body and your
    mind
  • 8:09 - 8:12
    goes into a phenomenal scale.
  • 8:12 - 8:14
    If right now,
  • 8:14 - 8:17
if you have to count from one to ten
  • 8:17 - 8:19
    right...the highest is ten,
  • 8:19 - 8:20
    if that is so,
  • 8:20 - 8:25
if you're attached or if you're involved
with this body you're less than one,
  • 8:25 - 8:27
    that's where it is.
  • 8:27 - 8:31
If these two things come apart, suddenly
you can rev it up all the way
  • 8:31 - 8:34
to ten, your ability to use the
    mind and the body
  • 8:34 - 8:36
    is so greatly enhanced that
  • 8:36 - 8:40
    you almost look superhuman for
    somebody else.
  • 8:40 - 8:44
But I'm telling you this is human. This
    is not about being
  • 8:44 - 8:46
    superhuman,
  • 8:46 - 8:52
this is about realizing being human
    is super.
  • 8:52 - 8:53
    Yes..
  • 8:53 - 9:00
Not a simple thing to be human.
  • 9:00 - 9:04
    Now the Isha Kriya just involves this;
  • 9:04 - 9:09
Your thought is playing a very important
role in your life right now
  • 9:09 - 9:11
    so let's employ that.
  • 9:11 - 9:13
    And your breath is vital,
  • 9:13 - 9:16
    so let's employ that.
  • 9:16 - 9:21
    And without your awareness you
wouldn't know that you are even here
  • 9:21 - 9:23
    right now. Hmm?
  • 9:23 - 9:27
If you're not aware you do not even know
    whether you're alive or dead,
  • 9:27 - 9:30
or whether you exist or not.
  • 9:30 - 9:32
    So these three ingredients
  • 9:32 - 9:33
    your breath,
  • 9:33 - 9:39
your thought, and your awareness, in the
right combination, if you use them
  • 9:39 - 9:43
you will see slowly a little bit of
    distance arises between you and
  • 9:43 - 9:45
    your body.
  • 9:45 - 9:46
    Now..
  • 9:46 - 9:52
    you're very distinctly moving from
    untruth to truth.
