-
Hey everyone, Alison here from the P2PU Help Desk.
-
This is a quick and bare bones tutorial on how to use the task feature in P2PU study groups.
-
Tasks are the central feature of all study groups on the platform,
-
and constructing a good one is crucial to the peer learning process.
-
Creating a task is really creating a page that can function like a blog, wiki or forum.
-
But we call it a task because that reiterates our belief that learning is about doing and doing things together.
-
Let's take a quick look through the feature and how it works.
-
All tasks created in a study group are listed in the left hand column.
-
and you can move each one up and down according to the priorities of the group.
-
Creating a new task is essentially creating a page.
-
and it can work very much like a blog post, a forum, or a wiki.
-
To keep wiki functionality, make sure to keep the "Collaborative Work" box checked,
-
this means that all participants can edit the body of the page.
-
Let's also take a quick glance through some excellent examples of the task feature being used in other study groups.
-
In "Introduction to Contributing to Lernanta"
-
(this is where our group of volunteer developers work to hack the site and make it better),
-
have used the task feature in some really interesting ways.
-
For example, the group has created a task about how to fix a bug,
-
and the participants are discussing the best ways in which they can actually contribute to the project.
-
In another course, "Introduction to the Field of Computer Supported Collaborative Learning"
-
the group has an excellent list of tasks.
-
The first being probably the most important which is "How to Complete the Course".
-
This is a great feature and really, really necessary information for the participants.
-
They've also used the task feature to create pages on "How to Participate in the Course", "How to Communicate"
-
keeping everyone informed of what everyone else is thinking,
-
and then also breaking down the learning syllabus into weeks.
-
A third great example is the Blogging and Writing For The Web study group.
-
They also use their task feature to keep everyone organised:
-
get everyone's blog posts, make some introductions
-
and break down the actual work that everyone needs to do into specific topics.
-
The most important thing to know about the task feature is that it's open ended
-
and you can be creative with it.
-
Bring any questions or comments you have about the task feature to
-

-
or the P2PU Help Desk, for a more in-depth discussion.
-
and remember, there are plenty of people here that are willing and wanting to help.
-
So don't be scared.
