Smaktest Predator

  • 0:02 - 0:06
the 3 most common species in
    Swedish lakes are
  • 0:06 - 0:07
    Pike
  • 0:07 - 0:08
    Perch
  • 0:08 - 0:09
    Zander
  • 0:09 - 0:14
You've always heard that zander is
the best fish to eat amongst these 3
  • 0:14 - 0:17
Perch is so tasty on sandwich
  • 0:17 - 0:23
and pike is so much bone in it
but you can eat it with horseradish
  • 0:24 - 0:28
Sara and I will fish in a regular
    Swedish lake
  • 0:28 - 0:32
and catch those 3 species and then we'll
    do a tasting test
  • 0:32 - 0:36
Is it possible, by cook them the same way,
    feel a difference in taste
  • 0:36 - 0:40
Not only a challenge to see if they
    taste different
  • 0:41 - 0:44
The big challenge will be to catch
    these 3 speicies
  • 0:44 - 0:47
It's early spring, cold in the water
  • 0:47 - 0:51
You can't count on the fish to be active
  • 0:51 - 0:55
But the things we do to see if it's
    actually any difference in taste
  • 0:56 - 1:00
In lakes this early in the spring,
the perch can often be found in deep holes
  • 1:00 - 1:03
    or on the edges,
    pressed against the bottom
  • 1:04 - 1:06
The pike is where the bait fish is
  • 1:06 - 1:11
The zander can be tricky but you often
    find them on a shallow
  • 1:13 - 1:17
There is one lure that can catch
    all 3 species
  • 1:17 - 1:19
    And that is flatnose mini
  • 1:20 - 1:25
Flatnose mini is a well known lure
which we fished with a lot
  • 1:25 - 1:28
And most often it has been the
    key to success
  • 1:28 - 1:30
Let's hope it's the same this time
  • 1:30 - 1:34
But first we'll read some of your comments
  • 1:34 - 1:37
    First comment is from Grisfeber
    and he wonder why
  • 1:37 - 1:42
I turn to a Skåning when I say toad
as I did in the latest video
  • 1:43 - 1:43
    A toooaad
  • 1:43 - 1:45
    A real toooaaad
  • 1:45 - 1:47
    A toooaaad perch
  • 1:47 - 1:51
And the reason is that I fished bream with
Alexander Björk a few years back
  • 1:51 - 1:55
He's from Skåne and say tooaaad
    to al the big breams
  • 1:56 - 1:59
This was a toooaaad, it was
  • 1:58 - 2:02
It sounded so funny so I started
    to say that aswell
  • 2:02 - 2:06
toooaaad to all big perch or fish
    or whatever
  • 2:07 - 2:12
    We've got a comment from Frejsan14
who wants us to say hello to her mother
  • 2:12 - 2:16
So hello mother and Frejsan 14
So fun you watch our videos together
  • 2:17 - 2:22
HolyN-Evil wonders if we will fish
at the west coast this summer
  • 2:23 - 2:27
We've actually planned that out, Me and
Edvin will go there and try som sea fishing
  • 2:27 - 2:32
after a vary of species, and you don't
want to miss out on that
  • 2:31 - 2:37
Dick Löfrgren says that we gilding his
    sundays, so thank you
  • 2:37 - 2:41
I hope you keep on watching now
cause me and Tobbe is about to catch some
  • 2:49 - 2:55
A good start to the day
    It's stormy weather
  • 2:54 - 2:59
Not that easy to ramp the boat
when the water is pushed straight in
  • 2:59 - 3:06
task number 1 today is to get the boat
in the water, there are a lot of stones
  • 3:06 - 3:10
I don't want to scrape it all up
  • 3:10 - 3:17
The idea is for us to start fishing for perch
but it's hard to even feel the strikes
  • 3:17 - 3:22
it wont be easy, but on the bright side
    we have no rain
  • 3:23 - 3:28
If i push the boat that way, it will just
    blow straight back
  • 3:28 - 3:31
we need to push it alongside the shore
  • 3:31 - 3:34
and then jump in the boat out there
  • 3:35 - 3:38
come on Sara, let's start pushing
  • 3:38 - 3:41
    - No stones please
    - easy to say Tobbe
  • 3:43 - 3:44
    push Sara!
  • 3:47 - 3:50
No need to worry, this was easy
  • 3:55 - 4:00
You don't want to rig the rods in the
    storm on this lake
  • 4:00 - 4:03
    with really clear water
  • 4:03 - 4:06
Therefore we'll go in there where we
can have som shelter from the wind
  • 4:06 - 4:09
behind this point it looks perfect
  • 4:11 - 4:15
we will catch perch, pike and zander
  • 4:15 - 4:20
In this small forest lake only holds
    perch and pike
  • 4:20 - 4:23
so the zander we'll have to catch later
    on another lake
  • 4:23 - 4:29
I want the perch and pike to get the best
chance to taste as good as possible
  • 4:28 - 4:34
If we where to fish perch and pike in a
    small muddy lake
  • 4:34 - 4:38
The risk is for them to taste a bit muddy
  • 4:38 - 4:42
This lake has very clear water
and the quality of the water i good
  • 4:42 - 4:45
It's much of sand an stones on the bottom
  • 4:45 - 4:52
And then you know the perch and pike
get the best chance to taste good
  • 4:52 - 4:56
flatnose mini is the lure I fished
    with the most
  • 4:56 - 5:01
Edvin designed it for 10-15 years ago
  • 5:01 - 5:05
    what's great about this softlure
  • 5:05 - 5:07
    you can catch big perch....
  • 5:08 - 5:09
    big pike...
  • 5:09 - 5:11
    and even big zander
  • 5:12 - 5:17
flatnose mini isn't only good for big fish
it works great if you want a lot of fish
  • 5:17 - 5:23
today we're after fish to cook and don't
want to spend to much time catching them
  • 5:23 - 5:26
so flatnose mini is a safe bet
  • 5:27 - 5:31
you can find flatnose mini in photofish
where you can design your own colours
  • 5:31 - 5:37
and we also got some brand new
    standard colours
  • 5:37 - 5:42
I'm so stoked to try out this new colour
    fantasy which is blue/red
  • 5:42 - 5:45
I think it will be hot in this clear water
  • 5:45 - 5:49
I want the best chance to catch a big per.
  • 5:49 - 5:53
Not a big perch but catch one fast
    I usually want big fish
  • 5:54 - 5:58
So therefore I'll try this new colour
    Sara brought today, Ultimate Silver!
  • 5:59 - 6:02
It looks like a cool silver fish
  • 6:03 - 6:07
The perch can't resist it, even the pikes
  • 6:07 - 6:11
The plan is to catch both perch and pike
    in this water
  • 6:11 - 6:15
and the pike will be like a bonus fish
    when we try for perch
  • 6:16 - 6:20
It's time to start, I'm feeling hungry
    already
  • 6:19 - 6:23
Let's see if the perch or pike will
    be the first fish
  • 6:26 - 6:31
When you try to catch fish to cook
it's so much more on stake
  • 6:31 - 6:36
We want to avoid being hungry
    so we must deliver
  • 6:36 - 6:38
Sooner or later we'll find them
  • 6:39 - 6:41
    I got one! got one!
  • 6:41 - 6:44
I told you we'll find them sooner or later
  • 6:44 - 6:48
    - It was sooner rather than later
    - yeah like 2 seconds after
  • 6:49 - 6:52
    I don't know if it's a pike or a perch
    but I think it's a pike
  • 6:52 - 6:55
It may be a good fish to cook,
    It's a pike
  • 6:57 - 7:00
Is it big enough to eat?
  • 7:00 - 7:04
there's a lot of bones in the pike
  • 7:04 - 7:07
so it's a lot easier with a bigger pike
  • 7:07 - 7:11
But I don't want to take home those
    big pikes
  • 7:11 - 7:14
It's okey to take this small pike
  • 7:14 - 7:18
It's a test and not supposedt o get full
  • 7:18 - 7:22
so this small pike will be enough
  • 7:23 - 7:28
This pike really wanted that flatnose mini
  • 7:29 - 7:33
It'll work great for our taste test
  • 7:34 - 7:37
We'll prep it for the soup
  • 7:37 - 7:41
There's 2 ways to put the pike to death
  • 7:41 - 7:44
One thing is to strike something hard
    in it's head
  • 7:44 - 7:48
The other thing is to use a knife
    through it's brain
  • 7:48 - 7:51
I don't have anything that hard
in the boat so I'll use the knife
  • 7:53 - 7:55
It's important to let it bleed out
  • 7:55 - 7:58
otherwise it may taste a bit blood
    and iron
  • 8:00 - 8:03
I'll make a cut through the neck of it
  • 8:04 - 8:06
    - here you go Tobbe
    - thanks
  • 8:09 - 8:10
    yummy!
  • 8:10 - 8:14
Check on the pike, let's catch a perch
    in this lake
  • 8:15 - 8:20
I've googled a good recipe on a fish soup
I can't wait to try it out
  • 8:20 - 8:23
    I believe it'll taste good
  • 8:23 - 8:27
So it's time to catch that perch to cook
  • 8:26 - 8:33
This wind is brutal, It's like a wind from
the North pole has reach Sweden
  • 8:33 - 8:39
and made chaos on this lake, It's not that
easy to fish if I'm being honest
  • 8:39 - 8:44
It's hard to feel the lure, you'll really
    have to concentrate
  • 8:47 - 8:51
It's positive that you can cast really far
  • 8:57 - 9:03
It's a deep edge where we fish right now
I've seen some perch earlier on the sonar
  • 9:04 - 9:09
It's important in this wind that you either
    fish against the wind
  • 9:09 - 9:13
Or with the wind, otherwise you'll
    not feel the strike
  • 9:13 - 9:17
if you fish from the side wind the line
    is like a bow
  • 9:17 - 9:23
and you can't even feel if there's a perch
  • 9:23 - 9:28
a good tip, just hope we'll catch one soon
  • 9:39 - 9:43
I've got a bad feeling with this lake
  • 9:43 - 9:46
I don't think the perch will strike
  • 9:46 - 9:51
often in clear water lake there are
    not so much perch
  • 9:51 - 9:55
But they are often bigger and should
    taste better
  • 9:55 - 9:59
If we don't catch one it'll be hard to
    do a tasting test
  • 9:59 - 10:04
We'll have to go to a more muddy lake
a little bit darker water but more perch
  • 10:11 - 10:16
This is our last try, we don't have
    much time at this lake
  • 10:15 - 10:19
    It's bigger, muddier but not
    super muddy
  • 10:19 - 10:23
It's kind of ok clear water
  • 10:23 - 10:25
I'll cross my fingers that we can catch
    a perch to cook
  • 10:25 - 10:28
It wont be to much to ask for
  • 10:28 - 10:32
nothing else to do than to get going
  • 10:31 - 10:37
I've not given up on this fantasy, let's
see if it can give us a half muddy perch
  • 10:39 - 10:45
Then I know when I taste, if it tastes
a bit muddy it's probably perh
  • 10:46 - 10:49
    we'll see, now let's catch a perch
  • 10:49 - 10:52
It would be nice if you get
    a strike at least
  • 10:52 - 10:55
well at least something, a nibble or so
  • 10:56 - 11:01
    - It's totally dead now
    - feels like you fish for nothing
  • 11:01 - 11:04
    hello!, where are you perch?
  • 11:04 - 11:08
    - really
    - that's perch, if they're not up for it
  • 11:08 - 11:12
Pikes you can always trigger to strike
  • 11:12 - 11:16
but perch like "I wont eat today"
  • 11:18 - 11:22
The perch refuse to strike today
  • 11:23 - 11:28
Me and Sara are on land and there's
only one thing to do until tomorrow
  • 11:28 - 11:32
and we can hope for both perch
and zander to be willing to strike
  • 11:32 - 11:34
and that is to clean out this pike
  • 11:34 - 11:39
Pike is a really hard fish to clean out
It got a lot of bones
  • 11:39 - 11:43
and the bones are in strange places
    compared to other species
  • 11:43 - 11:48
I'll do my best to show you how to
clean out a pike, bone free
  • 11:49 - 11:53
You don't want bone from a pike
    in your soup
  • 11:53 - 11:57
You'll start with a angled cut
  • 12:00 - 12:02
    and turn the fish around
  • 12:03 - 12:07
and then a angled cut from tail fin
  • 12:07 - 12:14
When I feel the bone I get the knife
straight and cut alongside the spine
  • 12:16 - 12:19
all the way until it stops
  • 12:22 - 12:23
    there we go
  • 12:24 - 12:25
    we have the filet
  • 12:27 - 12:32
this is how it looks, pretty big when you
think how small that pike was
  • 12:32 - 12:36
next step is to remove the skin
  • 12:36 - 12:39
and also a similar piece on the other side
  • 12:40 - 12:42
    Look at that
  • 12:43 - 12:47
You can see that the pike recently ate
    a roach
  • 12:48 - 12:52
    I've never seen that before
  • 12:52 - 12:56
I can feel that there's another fish in
    there aswell
  • 12:56 - 13:01
always fun when you clean out a fish to
    see what's in it's stomach
  • 13:01 - 13:06
You can learn a lot from that, we'll
have a closer look at the roach
  • 13:07 - 13:11
cut it off an press out the fish
  • 13:13 - 13:16
    one roach, and another one
  • 13:17 - 13:21
2 roach was the diet for this pike
  • 13:20 - 13:26
What you reckon Sara? shall we try roach
instead of perch in the soup?
  • 13:26 - 13:28
    We can't catch a perch
  • 13:28 - 13:35
I've tried roach one time before and that
was not good, so a big NO for me
  • 13:35 - 13:39
I'll rather jump in the water and
    swim for 3 days
  • 13:39 - 13:44
both sides are gone, and right here there
are a lot of foxes and pigs
  • 13:44 - 13:49
I'll do what the old men used to do with
the pike, throw it to the fox
  • 13:49 - 13:54
It doesn't look that tasty right now
    but we'll fix that
  • 13:54 - 14:00
I'll start to cut off the meat from the skin
  • 14:01 - 14:07
same here, just angle the knife
    and follow the skin
  • 14:07 - 14:12
    it's easier when you're indoors in a
kitchen with a bigger cutting board
  • 14:13 - 14:17
But when you're outdoors this will do
  • 14:17 - 14:22
Not full chaos but nos as good as
    if you are indoors
  • 14:22 - 14:27
press the knife against the cutting board
    and just pull
  • 14:29 - 14:32
a nice piece of skin, throw that to the fox
  • 14:32 - 14:36
and to exactly the same on the other
    filet bit
  • 14:36 - 14:40
This pike may have been a tad to small
    to take home and eat
  • 14:40 - 14:46
I think you should release all big pikes
    I wouldn't take home a pike over 75 cm
  • 14:46 - 14:50
and absolutely not over 90 cm
  • 14:50 - 14:54
They don't taste good and they are super
    important for the eco system
  • 14:55 - 15:00
A good pike to eat is around 60-75 cm
  • 15:00 - 15:05
A fish filet has 2 bits, the spine
    and the rear part
  • 15:05 - 15:10
which is always bone free, you can
    feel alongside the spine
  • 15:12 - 15:18
There the bones end, so just cut if off
and you have a bone free bit
  • 15:20 - 15:24
Not the biggest bit, I've seen bigger
  • 15:24 - 15:29
but it's bone free so it'll do
    for our small test
  • 15:29 - 15:33
we don't need soup for a whole
    school class
  • 15:33 - 15:37
    here you have the ribs,
    so I'll cut that off
  • 15:38 - 15:42
they are very shallow so just cut
    carefully
  • 15:46 - 15:51
Now we are at the hardest part
to cut out the bones in the middle
  • 15:51 - 15:55
The pike has got Y-shaped bones
  • 15:55 - 15:59
You need to cut at a very special way
  • 15:59 - 16:02
You feel all the bones with your fingers
  • 16:03 - 16:11
Here's the back filet, I'll cut straight
    with the bones
  • 16:11 - 16:13
    until you feel the bones
  • 16:14 - 16:19
after that you angle the knife outwards
    and cut around the bones
  • 16:19 - 16:23
This is hard to make sure you get as
    much meat as possible
  • 16:23 - 16:28
down with the knife and then angle it
    and cut outwards
  • 16:29 - 16:31
I actually think this will be ok
  • 16:31 - 16:35
I'm impressed by myself, It would've been
    easier with a big pike
  • 16:36 - 16:40
But I managed to cut out some meat
for us to use for the soup
  • 16:40 - 16:46
I'll cut off the last part which is
    totally bone free
  • 16:46 - 16:50
I'll cut off much meat because it's hard
to be picky with the bones
  • 16:51 - 16:57
pay attention, here's the row of bones
and I'll make a cut right here
  • 16:57 - 17:03
A lot of meat goes to waste but it'll
be worth it on this pike
  • 17:05 - 17:09
    this is all bone free
and this one's full of bones
  • 17:09 - 17:12
This one we'll throw to the fox
  • 17:13 - 17:16
And this bone free we save
  • 17:17 - 17:18
    and the pike is done
  • 17:18 - 17:26
There is some light left of the day and
sometimes the perch is willing to strike
  • 17:26 - 17:30
when the sun is about to set, so it'll
be worth trying to catch one
  • 17:30 - 17:33
    even the sun has appeared
  • 17:33 - 17:38
or at least you see it far away
  • 17:38 - 17:42
It may be a hot period for perch now
  • 17:42 - 17:46
We'll cross our fingers that it can deliver
  • 17:48 - 17:50
    - are you ready?
    - I am ready
  • 17:56 - 18:00
When i fish with this flatnose mini, the
first thing I do is just cast it out
  • 18:00 - 18:07
and let it sink to the bottom, you want
the lure to bounce on the bottom
  • 18:07 - 18:12
I can see it reached the bottom when the
line stops going out from the reel
  • 18:15 - 18:20
and then I pull up the rod and keep
    doing small twitches
  • 18:20 - 18:27
at the same time I'm retrieving the line
and keep it tense all the time
  • 18:27 - 18:33
no matter the season the perch are
    often very picky
  • 18:33 - 18:37
and you don't want to miss out when
the perch of your dream strikes
  • 18:38 - 18:44
In every video, someone always comments
and wonder what gear we're using
  • 18:45 - 18:50
I have a Abu Garcia Zenon reel 2500 size
  • 18:50 - 18:57
2500 is the most common size for perch,
and works best according to me
  • 18:57 - 19:02
This Zenon reel that I have is one of
    Abus most expensive reels
  • 19:02 - 19:06
and a really good reel if you want to
    indulge yourself great fishing gear
  • 19:06 - 19:10
But there isn't always a need for the most
    expensive gear for good fishing
  • 19:10 - 19:19
a reel between 1000-2000:- is absolutely
    enough for fun perch fishing
  • 19:19 - 19:25
The braid I'm using is rated at 5kg
    and comes from Stroft
  • 19:25 - 19:29
between 5-8kg will be great for perch
  • 19:30 - 19:34
the rod I'm using a Sweet stick from
    Bite of Bleak
  • 19:34 - 19:39
there are a lot of good rods out there
    this one is 5-20g
  • 19:39 - 19:43
and around 7 foot is good, this one is 7,6
  • 19:43 - 19:47
to be able to cast a good distance
  • 19:48 - 19:50
    I had one!
  • 19:51 - 19:55
I couldn't believe my ears, my sight
    my feel or anything
  • 19:55 - 19:58
    from nowhere a strike
  • 19:58 - 20:01
    And offcourse I missed it
  • 20:03 - 20:06
That might have been the one chance today
  • 20:06 - 20:10
Tobbe just stands there with his expensive
reel, I thought he was a pro
  • 20:10 - 20:14
apparently not, he need to hook that fish
  • 20:14 - 20:16
    What are you doing Tobbe?
  • 20:17 - 20:20
I cant take it, I've given up
  • 20:21 - 20:23
    It kills me
  • 20:32 - 20:36
Now I've done the last cast for today
  • 20:36 - 20:40
I'm tired and we need to reload
    for tomorrow
  • 20:40 - 20:43
Because it's so much at stake tomorrow
  • 20:43 - 20:47
It's enough, only one thing to do
  • 20:47 - 20:51
Go home and drown our sorrows
    with some pizza
  • 21:00 - 21:02
Tobbe!, I got some pizza for us
  • 21:02 - 21:06
We're here in a nice little cabin we rented
  • 21:06 - 21:08
    there's Sara with the pizza
  • 21:10 - 21:14
We have a good plan for tomorrow
I both like it and not
  • 21:14 - 21:18
The thing I like is that we probably will
    have great fishing
  • 21:17 - 21:21
what I don't like is that we need to get
    out of bed super early
  • 21:21 - 21:28
04:30 because it will be super windy
    around noon
  • 21:28 - 21:31
I've had enough of that wind
  • 21:31 - 21:36
I'm gonna hear the wind in my head
and dream about me blowing away
  • 21:37 - 21:43
we'll have another go, I'm ready to smash
this pizza and then go to bed
  • 21:43 - 21:45
and wake up in a few hours again
  • 21:51 - 21:55
Can you hear that Sara? Instead of hearing
    the wind and storm
  • 21:55 - 21:59
You can hear the birds chirping
    and seagulls
  • 21:59 - 22:02
    - It's winderful isn't it?
    - it is, can't ask for more
  • 22:03 - 22:07
now it's "only" zander and perch
    that we are missing
  • 22:13 - 22:17
this was a beautiful lake, like a
    mirror in the morning
  • 22:17 - 22:21
    Who would've thought that?
  • 22:24 - 22:28
The boat is in the water and it's time
for the zander to jump in the boat
  • 22:29 - 22:33
    I saw a small problem
    at the sign over there
  • 22:33 - 22:35
It's not that you cannot dive from the
    bridge over there
  • 22:36 - 22:38
It is that the zander must be at least
    50cm
  • 22:38 - 22:42
And thinking about the bad luck we had
    yesterday
  • 22:42 - 22:46
I would be glad if we just caugh a zander
    but 50cm is resonable
  • 22:46 - 22:49
you should not take home to
    small zanders anyhow
  • 22:49 - 22:53
Let's hope we have more luck
    than yesterday
  • 22:53 - 22:55
Let's go to the first spot
  • 23:01 - 23:05
One thing I've learnt is that zander
    like bright colours
  • 23:05 - 23:10
I found this flatnose mini that
    Tobbe has designed in photofish
  • 23:10 - 23:15
I really think it will deliver
a zander today, It'll have to
  • 23:15 - 23:18
I'll try a bright coloured flatnose mini
    designed in photofish
  • 23:18 - 23:22
but now let's do the first cast
  • 23:24 - 23:28
Let's see if the morning zander
    is awake
  • 23:29 - 23:32
    - You know what they say?
    - what do they say?
  • 23:32 - 23:34
The early bird catches the zander
  • 23:35 - 23:39
I've never heard that one before
    sounds resonable
  • 23:39 - 23:40
it was a long time ago you felt somet...
  • 23:41 - 23:43
    I think I had one
  • 23:44 - 23:45
    I think I had one
  • 23:44 - 23:47
Let's see if there's any bite marks?
  • 23:50 - 23:52
    It's sliced
  • 23:52 - 23:54
    We've hade contact
  • 23:54 - 24:00
I think I have to change lure, It's sliced
    all over
  • 24:00 - 24:04
now we know there's a zander down there
  • 24:04 - 24:07
But most often they strike really hard
  • 24:07 - 24:11
I almost didn't felt that strike, and that's
    not a good sign
  • 24:11 - 24:13
    But still there's hope
  • 24:13 - 24:19
here's my flatnose mini box, and this one
I've made in photofish and it delivered
  • 24:19 - 24:23
It's usually a killer when it comes to
    zander in this lake
  • 24:24 - 24:29
Both pike and perch we fished at a
    deep edge
  • 24:28 - 24:31
    It's a bit different
    when you fish for zander
  • 24:31 - 24:35
the water is not so clear because the
    zander doesn't like it
  • 24:35 - 24:38
but also we are at a shallow part
  • 24:38 - 24:42
It's pretty deep around here, like 20m
  • 24:44 - 24:48
But right here it's 6-9m deep
  • 24:50 - 24:55
I've never caught a big zander here but
    a lot of small zander
  • 24:55 - 24:59
all we have to do is manage to hook them
  • 24:59 - 25:04
And I know that when we fished for zander
at this place we got a lot of bonus perch
  • 25:04 - 25:07
with a little bit of luck we can get
    a perch aswell here
  • 25:07 - 25:09
I got one! NO NO, I had one
  • 25:10 - 25:13
I had another one, first cast after the last
  • 25:13 - 25:15
    and missed it again
  • 25:16 - 25:20
Look what it dit to my flatnose
pulled it out from the jig head
  • 25:20 - 25:24
I can't get my head around what the
    zanders are up to
  • 25:25 - 25:27
I don't know what to do
  • 25:27 - 25:31
    sometime someone has to strike
  • 25:31 - 25:35
we know we're at the right place
    they are here
  • 25:44 - 25:46
    There! NO!
  • 25:47 - 25:48
    Missed it again
  • 25:51 - 25:54
    look, look at the flatnose
  • 25:54 - 25:57
    How's it even possible?
  • 25:57 - 26:02
I've done some tricks which I never
    had to do before
  • 26:02 - 26:08
I've tied a stinger to a flatnose mini
    I can't miss more fish
  • 26:08 - 26:14
    I've put on a UV-hook, a really small
one, if they only bite the tail
  • 26:15 - 26:19
I'll probably be able to hook them
  • 26:27 - 26:29
    I got one! got one!
  • 26:29 - 26:31
    YES, Tobbe!
  • 26:31 - 26:35
I got one when I, It might be a perch
  • 26:35 - 26:37
here it comes, let's see what it is
  • 26:37 - 26:38
    It is a .....
  • 26:39 - 26:41
    - what is it?
    - what is it?
  • 26:45 - 26:49
    - what did the sign said?
    - 50 cm I believe
  • 26:49 - 26:50
    This one's like 20 cm
  • 26:52 - 26:55
But you caught one at least Tobbe
  • 26:55 - 26:58
First cast with the stinger and a fish
  • 27:00 - 27:04
I can even bass land this zander
  • 27:04 - 27:08
This one is not approved according
    to the minimum lenght
  • 27:11 - 27:14
This small zander will go back
  • 27:14 - 27:20
See how it took? It's the stinger
without it I might have lost it
  • 27:20 - 27:25
Not only did it take on the stinger
It's also furthest out in the mouth
  • 27:25 - 27:29
It didn't swallow it at all
  • 27:29 - 27:32
a bad zander to eat so it'll go back
  • 27:32 - 27:36
At least some light in the darkness
  • 27:37 - 27:40
We might found the solution with
    a stinger
  • 27:46 - 27:50
    Yes! Nooo it's so sick
  • 27:50 - 27:53
    That was a strike but
  • 27:54 - 27:55
    so annoyed
  • 27:55 - 27:57
    YES! now I got it
  • 27:57 - 27:59
    - It's bigger
    - yeah it's better
  • 28:01 - 28:05
I wonder what it is? it feels like a..
  • 28:05 - 28:07
    It's a nice zander!
  • 28:07 - 28:09
    - the net Sara
    - the net
  • 28:12 - 28:14
    take it
  • 28:15 - 28:16
    YES!
  • 28:18 - 28:20
    This was well earnt
  • 28:20 - 28:23
We've fought so hard for this zander
  • 28:24 - 28:27
    Finally, oh my god
  • 28:27 - 28:30
That zander is definitly over 50 cm
  • 28:30 - 28:33
a great zander to eat, not to big
  • 28:33 - 28:38
same as pikes, you don't want to take
    home to big zanders
  • 28:39 - 28:44
We'll have a look at it and then
    it's all about the perch
  • 28:46 - 28:48
    Look at this zander
  • 28:49 - 28:50
    so perfect
  • 28:51 - 28:56
It really put on a fight, I felt it wanna
    run away
  • 28:57 - 29:01
really really nice, I'm so happy
  • 29:01 - 29:05
we've fought so hard, got out of bed in
    the middle of the night
  • 29:08 - 29:12
unhook it, and NOT release it
  • 29:12 - 29:15
    It was close,
by default I just release them
  • 29:15 - 29:18
Then Tobbe would've thrown me in aswell
  • 29:20 - 29:24
    Here's the knife Sara
  • 29:24 - 29:26
    I love knifes
  • 29:26 - 29:27
    I shall stab the zander
  • 29:27 - 29:30
    I sound like a sadist
  • 29:32 - 29:36
This poor zander will pay cause
    his friends didn't strike earlier
  • 29:36 - 29:39
    - here's the bag Sara
    - you're the best Tobbe
  • 29:43 - 29:45
    Will be yummy, I'm stoked
  • 29:45 - 29:48
    Then there's only perch left
  • 29:48 - 29:55
There are plenty of perch in this lake
but this spot isn't the best for perch
  • 29:55 - 30:02
So we'll start the boat and go to
    an island over there
  • 30:02 - 30:04
    sound like a plan
  • 30:08 - 30:14
we've reach a few islands here and one
advantage is that it's not so windy
  • 30:15 - 30:20
It's a lot of stones, shallows and other
    that perch really like
  • 30:20 - 30:24
Hopefully they are in the the mood today
  • 30:24 - 30:29
This water is very cloudy, so I'll continue
    with this bright flatnose mini
  • 30:29 - 30:32
And hope that the perch want it
  • 30:32 - 30:36
The species there are most of in the lake
    of the predators is perch
  • 30:37 - 30:39
It shouldn't be that hard to catch one
  • 30:40 - 30:42
    let's go
  • 30:45 - 30:47
    I got one, got one!
  • 30:47 - 30:48
    I got it, NO!
  • 30:49 - 30:50
    No it let go
  • 30:51 - 30:53
    what the?
  • 30:54 - 30:56
It let go, but what a hard strike
  • 30:56 - 31:00
    I don't think it was a perch
  • 31:00 - 31:02
    that was a zander
  • 31:03 - 31:04
    that was a zander
  • 31:14 - 31:15
    There I got it!
  • 31:15 - 31:16
    I got it
  • 31:16 - 31:19
    It might be a perch
It might be a perch actually
  • 31:19 - 31:20
    It feels like a perch
  • 31:20 - 31:21
    It is...
  • 31:21 - 31:22
    It is a...
  • 31:22 - 31:23
    It's a zander
  • 31:23 - 31:25
    It was a zander
  • 31:25 - 31:29
I thought we finally have cleared the
challenge to catch all 3 species
  • 31:29 - 31:32
But it was a zander and I think this one
    is approved
  • 31:32 - 31:35
and we could've taken this one aswell
  • 31:35 - 31:37
one zander is enough for the soup
  • 31:38 - 31:41
It's fun that it started to strike anyhow
  • 31:41 - 31:43
    much better than yesterday
  • 31:43 - 31:49
Here we have the zander, a pretty
    decent zander to catch
  • 31:49 - 31:52
It seems like there's a lot of zander here
  • 31:52 - 31:56
The first strike I got was a zander
    it was so hard
  • 31:57 - 32:01
this one is maybe 50-52 cm
  • 32:01 - 32:05
I didn't need that extra treble hook on
    this one
  • 32:05 - 32:08
It really bit on the jighead
  • 32:09 - 32:13
we keep going, I do believe there's
    a few perch here aswell
  • 32:14 - 32:18
This flatnose mini in this bright colour
    is really a zander magnet
  • 32:19 - 32:24
I've got so many small zanders
    before on this lure
  • 32:37 - 32:39
    There I got it!
    I got one
  • 32:39 - 32:41
    It feels like a perch
  • 32:41 - 32:43
    It might be a perch
  • 32:44 - 32:45
    It feels like it
  • 32:45 - 32:48
    NO
    It's another zander
  • 32:49 - 32:52
Why didn't we go here for zander fishing?
  • 32:53 - 32:55
    We would've catch so many
  • 32:55 - 32:57
No complaint from me, atleast we got fish
  • 32:58 - 33:00
This zander should get som stripes
  • 33:01 - 33:04
    and change name to perch
  • 33:05 - 33:09
    This one is not aproved
    for the taste test
  • 33:10 - 33:13
off it goes and we hope for a perch
  • 33:17 - 33:22
It's a stone shallow up there, and I think
    the zanders are there
  • 33:22 - 33:26
    I don't think, they are there 100%
  • 33:26 - 33:30
It should be some perch there aswell
    among these zanders
  • 33:32 - 33:33
    There I got one
  • 33:34 - 33:35
    zander
  • 33:36 - 33:38
what? no? no it's a perch
  • 33:39 - 33:42
    I can't believe my eyes, it's a perch
  • 33:43 - 33:45
    I was like "it's a zander"
  • 33:45 - 33:46
    and it was a perch
  • 33:47 - 33:50
When you least expect it to happen
    it happens
  • 33:50 - 33:55
Look at this, not the biggest perch
and not the best to cook
  • 33:55 - 33:59
But I take what i can get, it's just
    some small bits of soup
  • 33:59 - 34:01
    This one will be food
  • 34:01 - 34:04
    we passed the challenge!
  • 34:06 - 34:08
    - well done Tobbe!
    - thank you
  • 34:08 - 34:10
    flatnose mini does it again
  • 34:10 - 34:13
delivers all 3 species on the same lure
  • 34:13 - 34:16
    different colours but hey
  • 34:16 - 34:21
Now we finally have all 3 species so
we can do our tasting test
  • 34:21 - 34:24
It wasn't easy and we've fought hard for it
  • 34:24 - 34:29
but it was fun, now I'm so stoked to see
if there are any difference in taste or not
  • 34:30 - 34:33
welcome to Tobbes school of cleaning fish
  • 34:33 - 34:36
we are here at Solgen at Åsas Fiskegård
  • 34:36 - 34:40
and they have a big cuttning board here
  • 34:40 - 34:44
It will make life so much easier for
my school of cleaning out fish
  • 34:44 - 34:48
    We'll start with the perch
    we'll pant it up
  • 34:49 - 34:53
at first you do exactly the same on both
    the perch and zander
  • 34:54 - 34:57
as I did on the pike, with both sides
  • 34:58 - 35:02
you do an angled cut towards the head
  • 35:04 - 35:08
and then you do the same as with the pike
cut from the tail towards the middle
  • 35:09 - 35:14
an angled cut and then follow the spine
  • 35:14 - 35:18
try not to saw and do an even cut
  • 35:19 - 35:21
    there goes the perch
  • 35:21 - 35:24
    just grab it and continue
  • 35:24 - 35:27
all the way and cut like this
  • 35:28 - 35:30
    to get the whole filet
  • 35:32 - 35:34
    cut off the side part
  • 35:36 - 35:40
the bigger the fish are, the easier it is
    to get a nice filet
  • 35:40 - 35:42
these small ones are pretty hard
  • 35:42 - 35:45
    here we have one filet
  • 35:45 - 35:49
next step is to cut off the skin
  • 35:50 - 35:57
An angled cut and follow the skin
    all the way
  • 35:59 - 36:03
there is some bones here I have to cut off
  • 36:04 - 36:09
If I had a bigger perch I would be able
    to pant the perch
  • 36:09 - 36:11
    and you get more meat
  • 36:12 - 36:16
this one is to small to do it
  • 36:16 - 36:18
I'll just cut off a row of bone
  • 36:18 - 36:23
    Here's bone free, and here
and here's a row of bones
  • 36:26 - 36:32
I'll cut off this small bit of bones
  • 36:32 - 36:36
This is a bone free bit of perch
  • 36:36 - 36:40
here's all the meat I got from that perch
  • 36:40 - 36:44
Not much to cheer for but would've been
    great on a sandwich
  • 36:44 - 36:48
It will be enough for this tasting test
  • 36:48 - 36:54
while Tobias prepare the last with the fish
    I'll prepare our soup
  • 36:54 - 36:58
I'll start with chopping up fennel,
    onion and carrot
  • 36:58 - 37:07
Next step is to fry all the vegetables
in some oil for a minute
  • 37:08 - 37:09
    This is so scary
  • 37:11 - 37:14
    It get hot so fast
  • 37:14 - 37:17
    pour some olive oil
  • 37:20 - 37:22
    and all the vegetables
  • 37:23 - 37:26
this will fry for about a minute
  • 37:26 - 37:32
we've done so much cooking in our
videos so I've become a pro chef
  • 37:32 - 37:36
you may not think that, but I do
    i have become much better
  • 37:39 - 37:42
This is almost done, looking good
  • 37:42 - 37:46
We'll pour over some water and freshly
    squeezed lemon
  • 37:49 - 37:51
It's important not to get any seeds
    in the soup
  • 37:53 - 37:55
You don't want to chew on them
  • 37:56 - 38:00
I was about to forget something,
    fish stock
  • 38:00 - 38:03
I'll crumble it and cook it
  • 38:03 - 38:06
Now it will cook for about 5 minutes
  • 38:06 - 38:09
It's time for this nice big fish
    to be cleaned out
  • 38:09 - 38:13
This zander is worth a lot of money
    zander filet is expensive
  • 38:13 - 38:17
I will take care of all meat I can
  • 38:17 - 38:21
    Same here, an angled cut
  • 38:21 - 38:24
    there broke the swim bladder
  • 38:24 - 38:25
    fasten with a knife
  • 38:27 - 38:28
    cut inwards
  • 38:29 - 38:31
    and follow the spine
  • 38:31 - 38:34
This looks great, I can tell
  • 38:34 - 38:37
    here's a stop
  • 38:37 - 38:41
I'll start to cut from the back, to get
    as much meat as possible
  • 38:41 - 38:47
just small cuts along the spine
  • 38:48 - 38:50
    just drag the knife along
  • 38:51 - 38:56
you see that?, it just opens up
  • 38:58 - 39:02
    keep working my way down
  • 39:04 - 39:05
    all the way
  • 39:07 - 39:11
    and here you can cut
  • 39:13 - 39:14
    there you go
  • 39:14 - 39:18
a lot more meat on this one,
    and much nicer filet
  • 39:18 - 39:22
so much easier with a bigger fish
  • 39:22 - 39:26
    such nice filets,
    look at them
  • 39:26 - 39:30
Now we'll cut away the skin
  • 39:31 - 39:36
just as the other fishes, start here
    and cut all the way
  • 39:36 - 39:39
It takes som time to learn how to
    clean out fish
  • 39:39 - 39:42
It's very hard the first times
  • 39:42 - 39:45
You'll do mistakes but just continue
to learn and you'll get better
  • 39:45 - 39:50
I learned a lot when I was in Norway fishing
    on 40-50 k gco
  • 39:50 - 39:54
we just had a few hours to clean them out
  • 39:54 - 39:57
We did wrong at first but I got better
    and better
  • 39:58 - 40:03
The perch should have a few bones here
    if I did it correct
  • 40:03 - 40:09
but the zander does not, so I'll just cut
    away these "ribs"
  • 40:09 - 40:12
and then we'll have a 100% bone free filet
  • 40:13 - 40:15
    like this
  • 40:16 - 40:18
    here's the zander filet
  • 40:19 - 40:21
look how much meat we got
    out of that zander
  • 40:22 - 40:25
And how nice, It could'nt be better
  • 40:25 - 40:30
Not much more time left now
    we'll add some cream
  • 40:30 - 40:33
    we take the whole pack
  • 40:34 - 40:36
    some fine chopped dill
  • 40:38 - 40:41
of course we need some salt and pepper
  • 40:41 - 40:45
the last step is the fish and let it
cook for a minute or 2
  • 40:45 - 40:50
because I'm about to blind test this
    Tobbe will do that part
  • 40:51 - 40:53
    Now the soups are ready
  • 40:53 - 40:57
    I'll end with some garnish
    for the looks
  • 40:57 - 41:00
with som shrimp and a bransch of dill
  • 41:00 - 41:04
wow wow wow, doesn't it look amazing?
  • 41:04 - 41:08
I cant' wait to try this out,
    but first it's Sara
  • 41:08 - 41:13
Now we've reach the moment of truth,
it will be interesting to see
  • 41:13 - 41:18
    - what do you think Sara?
    - I don't know, I think it will be hard
  • 41:18 - 41:21
to actually taste the difference, I'm
    excited and nerbous
  • 41:21 - 41:24
It's time for you to start, I'm the only
one who know which is what
  • 41:24 - 41:28
Do you think Sara will make the
    correct guesses?, leave a comment
  • 41:28 - 41:29
    let's start the test
  • 41:29 - 41:33
This soup looks so good, as usual
    when we cook nowadays
  • 41:33 - 41:37
You can't actually see any difference on
    the meat itself
  • 41:37 - 41:41
    I can't wait, I need to start
  • 41:42 - 41:45
    I'll start with this one
  • 41:45 - 41:48
we'll focus mostly on the meat
  • 41:55 - 42:00
    - mmh, I'll try all of them first
    - you can make a guess now Sara
  • 42:02 - 42:04
ok wait, I'll have some more
  • 42:07 - 42:11
    - what's you first thought?
    - I think this one is perch
  • 42:11 - 42:16
don't ask me why, just a thought
    I may change later on
  • 42:16 - 42:18
    next one
  • 42:25 - 42:28
the taste is almost the same, but
  • 42:29 - 42:32
the meat was like more rubbery
  • 42:32 - 42:34
    the other was more tender
  • 42:34 - 42:37
I think this one is the pike
  • 42:38 - 42:41
    and now the last one
  • 42:48 - 42:52
oh my god this is so hard, I don't
    think you understand
  • 42:54 - 42:57
I think my guesses are correct
  • 42:57 - 42:59
    perch, pike and zander
  • 42:59 - 43:03
    - what do I get if I'm correct?
    - You can have 100 000:-
  • 43:03 - 43:05
You didn't have them all correct
  • 43:07 - 43:09
    you had, drumroll.........
  • 43:09 - 43:11
    1 out of 3
  • 43:11 - 43:14
1 out of 3, above my expectations
  • 43:14 - 43:17
    - which one was the correct one?
    - the pike?
  • 43:17 - 43:21
Yeah the pike was correct, but you
    mixed up perch and zander
  • 43:21 - 43:22
    pretty resonable
  • 43:22 - 43:25
    the first one was zander
  • 43:25 - 43:29
the one in the middle was pike and
    the last was perch
  • 43:29 - 43:35
I was surprised though, they tasted more
    similar than I thought
  • 43:35 - 43:39
    the pike was really good
  • 43:39 - 43:43
    - but the texture was different?
    - yeah the other ones was more tender
  • 43:43 - 43:45
It was kinda like I thought
  • 43:48 - 43:51
Great news, Team Galant will feature
on Dalaranas hunting and fishing fair
