This is a tutorial on how to use Universal Subtitles to subtitle videos currently existing on YouTube.
-
First you have to locate your video on YouTube. The easiest way to get the address for the video you're looking for is just to search for it on YouTube.
-
Copy the web address and then you're gonna navigate on over to Universal Subtitles.
-
The address is at the top of the screen here. Once you're at Universal Subtitles you're going to click the create button
-
and enter your videos address in the bar and then you'll click begin
-
after a little bit of a wait the website will open your video in their window and there will be a box down below the video
-
that says "Subtitle Me". Go ahead and click on that box and then it will take you to a page, umm, it's the
-
first step in subtitleing, it's typing. If you have a transcript for your video this step is even easier.
-
All you have to do is copy and paste the text from your transcript into the subtitle box. If you don't have a transcript, the website will
-
play 8 seconds of the video at a time and you can enter all the text that you hear and everything that appears on the screen.
-
You can aslo set different speed modes so it can play continuously or magically stop. Here are some tips for adding subtitles to your
-
video. As I already said if you have a transcript you can copy and paste.
-
If you don't have a transcript "tab" and "shift+tab" are the two keys your going to use to play and pause the video.
-
Everything you see and hear you will want to type. That includes words that appear on the screen,
-
um, or, if there is music you can put that in brackets, or other sounds like birds chirping or kids laughing.
-
In order to complete the process of subtitleing you then have to sync your video to your subtitles.
-
Universal Subtitles makes this pretty easy. All you do is push the play button, and then hit the down arrow everytime a subtitle
-
should appear. If you get it wrong the first time you can always restart and try again.
-
If you only make small errors don't worry about them, you can correct them in the next step of the
-
process. The last step is to review your video Um. When you review your video, you want to
-
make sure there are no errors in your text and you want to make sure your text is synced properly to your video.
-
You're going to drag the boxes in the timeline to correct minor timing errors and then you can just click in the boxes and correct
-
typing errors. Once your video is finished, you can scroll down to the bottom of that reviewing screen
-
and hit "Done? Publish your video". And your video will then be submitted to Universal Subtitles and it will appear on their web
-
page. There's a couple cool things that you can do from this finished page.
-
First off, you can share your subtitles and you can also embed video in other websites. You can also download your subtitles
-
by clicking on the select language box at the bottom of the screen and scrolling down
-
theres a couple other option you can do there as well. You can also log on to Universal Subtitles using
-
your Goggle, Open ID or Twitter account or you can create an account on their website. And this allows you to save your work as you go so
-
that you don't have to do it all in one sitting. Allright, that's all I have. So, Happy Editing, have a good time!
