UNESCO: Teacher educators reflect on ICT integration (VDO) (enhanced audio)

  • 0:00 - 0:01
(Rachel De Claro - Cynthia Grace L. Diaz - University of the East (Manilla, Philippines))
  • 0:01 - 0:04
[Cynthia Grace L. Diaz] And we hope that this will change perspectives in ICT integration.
  • 0:04 - 0:09
[Rachel De Claro] We're hoping that it's going to become as successful in other countries,
  • 0:09 - 0:13
at other countries, as it was here with us in the Philippines.
  • 0:13 - 0:22
[Diaz] And hopefully it will change the perspective among teachers that ICT integration is very doable
  • 0:22 - 0:30
and that it's very down to earth, that we do not need much to actually integrate ICT.
  • 0:30 - 0:33
It can be done very simply.
  • 0:33 - 0:39
[De Claro] I mean it too [?]. In the training, we tried to keep it as practical as possible.
  • 0:39 - 0:46
So, I think by giving the teachers time to actually navigate through the resources and the CDs,
  • 0:46 - 0:50
hem, if we come to [inaudible]
  • 0:50 - 0:55
The resources are already at hand, it's just a matter of exploring them and using them,
  • 0:55 - 1:02
[Diaz] And hopefully, in the end, what you really want is to be able to share these resources, not just --
  • 1:02 - 1:06
well, first and foremost, the multimedia resources of UNESCO Bangkok,
  • 1:06 - 1:11
and at the same time, also share even the training designed to other countries.
  • 1:11 - 1:13
(On 3-6 July 2012, UNESCO organized a workshop on integrating ICT in education in Bangkok, Thailand,)
  • 1:13 - 1:14
(with participants from Asia-Pacific Regional Teacher Education Institutions and Resource Distribution Centres)
  • 1:14 - 1:15
(Sani Alhaji Garba - PhD Research Fellow at School of Education Studies, Universiti Sains Malaysia)
  • 1:15 - 1:17
[Sani Alhaji Garba] The workshop was actually very educative.
  • 1:17 - 1:24
I find it very useful because as a teacher educator, I think, with this workshop,
  • 1:24 - 1:27
there are so many things that have become very clear,
  • 1:27 - 1:31
and some of the challenges that we meet in the field on what people ask us about,
  • 1:31 - 1:37
in particular the issue of how, when it comes to the issue of ICT integration in pedagogical practices,
  • 1:37 - 1:43
the issue of how, when and where to integrate ICT, I think the UNESCO have been a good--
  • 1:43 - 1:44
(Shesha Kanta Pangeni Lecturer at School of Education Kathmandu University)
  • 1:44 - 1:50
[Shesha Kanta Pangeni] This workshop has been very good for me, because it has given many insights
  • 1:50 - 1:56
regarding the use of ICT in education, especially how to integrate
  • 1:56 - 2:07
the resources distributed for the UNESCO and then we as a part of our CD, and what should be our teacher's role [?] --
  • 2:07 - 2:10
[Diaz] Actually it just started out with some training from the university.
  • 2:10 - 2:16
We were training the professors that we have in the college of education,
  • 2:16 - 2:22
until we started going out and to teach public school teachers, and even private school teachers
  • 2:22 - 2:30
and -- until we got invited to national seminars on training of trainers,
  • 2:30 - 2:36
where we were able to share the multimedia resources of UNESCO Bangkok.
  • 2:36 - 2:39
(Minnie Rose Lapinid - De La Salle University - Manila)
  • 2:39 - 2:42
("I'm very pleased with the activities that we went through.)
  • 2:42 - 2:44
(In the process, I've learnt a lot because I had to look at the resources available on how to be resourceful")
  • 2:44 - 2:46
(Afroza Yasmin - Project Coordinator at British Council - Bangladesh)
  • 2:46 - 2:49
("I found the workshop is very much useful and I'm very much hopeful that teachers are going to use this resource)
  • 2:49 - 2:52
(to integrate ICT in the classroom to make the learning process to be more interesting and interactive")
  • 2:52 - 2:55
(Thin Thao Nguyen - Acting Dean of Department of Foreign Languages, Quang Nam University - Vietnam)
  • 2:55 - 3:00
("I can see the whole picture of education in the region, and the course was very inspiring and I will apply to my educational situation")
  • 3:00 - 3:04
(participants holding a banner: "Regional TET-RDC Training Workshop)
  • 3:04 - 3:07
(L->R: Man standing holding sheet of paper, man at the mike, man sitting and laughing)
  • 3:07 - 3:11
    (Workshop participants in lab)
  • 3:11 - 3:14
    (workshop participants standing)
  • 3:14 - 3:18
    (2 female speakers, saluting)
