Freedom of Expression on the Internet
-
1945 Constitution (Second Amendment) article no. 28F
-
Every human has the right to communication and right getting information to develop their personal and social environment,
-
to search, to get, to have, to store, to cultivate, and to express, and to use all sort of forms of channels available.
-
The usage of the Internet in Indonesia is still surging. On November 2011, there were 55 million recorded Internet users.
-
The development of information technology and telecommunication is so fast we are faced with challenges and demands for
-
the implementation of Human Rights in online media.
-
The freedom of expression, freedom of speech, and to obtain information without fear.
-
The criminalization of these rights are a violation of Human Rights.
-
Because it's against the UN Declaration of Human Rights and also our constitution.
-
So how do we maintain freedom of expression on the Internet?
-
First, speak up.
-
Express your opinion on every format and media. Don't hesitate to state your opinion including when you're criticizing the authorities.
-
Second, respect diversity.
-
Differences are not an excuse to silence someone else's freedom of expression.
-
Third, anonimity is not taboo.
-
Every person has a right to protect their privacy including being anonymous on the Internet.
-
Even though we know that there are still pros and cons to this.
-
Fourth, respect intellectual rights
-
Piracy is equal to stealing and kills creativity.
-
Fifth, responsiblity
-
Your mouth is your tiger, become wise when you're on internet. And be rational.
-
Sixth, networking and sharing.
-
Do social piety on Internet by sharing knowledge as wide as possible.
-
Knowledge belongs to the people.
-
Seventh, censorship.
-
Censorship at certain levels denies your intelligence and cuts you off from reality .
-
So be wise while online...
-
think before posting!
