Presidential Elections and First Time Voters
-
Indonesians will celebrate a festival for democracy which will be held
-
on 9 July 2014
-
This presidential election is its 3rd direct presidential election
-
and the winner will hold the position for 5 years
-
In every election, first time voters always become the source for the battle of influence
-
between the various political camps
-
This group will be wooed by every candidate
-
The young voter has different characteristics from the other older voters
-
The young voter is much more critical, autonomous, independent, and positive to change
-
But we must remember that the young voter is also a subject and political asset
-
They are not just objects of political rivalries between political parties and presidential candidates
-
Their voices also need to be heard
-
Their interests need to be answered
-
Their hopes:
-
My hope for the presidential candidates in 2014 is that they
-
create a real democratic system in Indonesia
-
All this time my impression of these two candidates comes only from their efforts to fight each other
-
(I hope) the supporting teams of candidates only broadcast information that's more positive to society
-
To prevent the spreading of hatred
-
towards either of the presidential candidates
-
My hope for the candidates is that they pay attention to creative workers
-
and that all the people who work in this field so that they don't (only) become spectators in their own city

-
And that the president will fix the surge of unemployment
-
Rule of law
-
The next president must eradicate the abuse of drugs and narcotics, human trafficking... they have to be firm
-
and exterminate all corruption at its roots

To the elected president, I hope that
-
my province, Riau, will be free from forest burning and smoke from it so we won't suffer like this every year
-
Young people are like fire
-
If there is no channel for them, they will burn every where
-
And once again, to the elected president, he should apply democracy
-
So that the future generation will know what real democracy is
