0:00:00.520,0:00:04.990 A few weeks ago a Wikipedian came to me with[br]a really great and really crazy idea and that 0:00:04.990,0:00:10.750 was for us to try to get Wikipedia recognized[br]as one of UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage 0:00:10.750,0:00:14.650 Sites. When I first heard the idea I thought[br]“But does that even make sense?” And I 0:00:14.650,0:00:18.460 went and I looked at the criteria for what[br]it takes to be one of these sites and Wikipedia 0:00:18.460,0:00:19.580 really fits it. 0:00:19.580,0:00:23.890 A lot of people think of Wikipedia as a technological[br]phenomenon or a technical achievement but 0:00:23.890,0:00:28.710 in fact it isn’t. What Wikipedia is is a[br]cultural change, a cultural achievement. 0:00:28.710,0:00:32.230 So what we’re trying to do now is: we got[br]a petition going, we’re going to try to 0:00:32.230,0:00:35.930 get as many people to sign it as possible,[br]we’re going to send it to UNESCO and try 0:00:35.930,0:00:39.140 to convince them that this is a really great[br]idea that’s supported by all the people 0:00:39.140,0:00:43.079 of the world. And people are getting involved[br]in the campaign, everywhere in the world, 0:00:43.079,0:00:44.680 across many many different languages. 0:00:44.680,0:00:48.010 But I want you to do more than just sign the[br]petition. If you can share this with your 0:00:48.010,0:00:53.540 friends, send an email to people with this[br]link. If you are on Twitter, put it on Twitter. 0:00:53.540,0:00:56.969 If you are on Facebook, put it on Facebook.[br]If you have a blog, blog about it. All the 0:00:56.969,0:01:01.570 places where you are online: if you can help[br]us just spread the message and get as many 0:01:01.570,0:01:04.969 people as possible, I think it’s gonna happen. 0:01:04.969,0:01:08.520 Just like Wikipedia itself: the more people[br]will get involved, the greater chance that 0:01:08.520,0:01:09.709 we’ll achieve our goal. 0:01:09.709,0:01:11.169 Please, sign the petition.
