Cyberbullying Bullying such as cursing, insulting, mocking, and threatening now not only happens in real life. This form of violence has already went far into the Internet world, it's now known as cyberbullying. The offenders and victims are mostly kids and teenagers. These acts often show on social media like Twitter and Facebook. The effect of cyberbullying is much more damaging compared to bullying in the real world. It is causing serious damage because it leaves deep psychological scars. The victim can feel anxiety, depression and even commit suicide. Although cyberbullying is becoming a serious threat, it's sadly still not getting enough attention in Indonesia. The following are tips to help us prevent cyberbullying. First, cut off the communication. Block the offender's account. If it's happening in a chatroom, just leave the chatroom. The offender may create a different account to continue the attacks but at least we can already be aware. Second, don't respond. The offender is always waiting for the victim's reaction. So just ignore it and don't get hooked. Third, report it. Immediately report this to trusted parties such as parents, teachers, or counselors in school. Don't hesitate to use the report or block feature from service providers such as Facebook, Twitter or emails. Fourth, take a formal step. Capture all of these messages, pictures or harassing materials that have been used by the offender as evidence for law enforcement. Fifth, always be polite on the Internet. Bad behavior when you're online like gossip or slander will increase the risk of victimizing others. And Sixth, becoming friends to spread the bullying or just keeping calm will worsen the bullying and hurts the victims. You can ask the offender to stop this act, or help victims to calm themselves. So be wise while online... think before posting!
