Interviewers frequently use a conversational or open discussion strategy to uncover what you know about the subject matter at hand and to find out what your feelings may be on something. This creates a comfortable atmosphere and relieves some of the pressure that a straight question and answer format can have. However it can sometimes lull the interviewee into an overly high comfort level where the guard is let down and something negative comes out. Do not get caught up in a conversation which goes nowhere and keep your focus on the topic. Keep your guard up and remember that you are being evaluated and assessed at all times. Maintain a positive attitude when being asked questions designed to uncover something negative about you. Avoid negativity and put a positive spin on your response and address how you learned and grew.
