Welcome to this Daisy Consortium tutorial
on setting the default computer voice for
the Save As DAISY Add In for Microsoft Word
2010.
When you convert or translate content using
the Save as DAISY Add In for Microsoft Word
it uses the default voice on your computer
system. For example, if you have Windows XP
there’s a good chance you will have the
earlier Microsoft Sam and Mary voices installed.
Some users may find these voices tiresome
to listen to although some users find the
Sam and Mary very acceptable.
However, with the release of Windows 7, Microsoft
Anna is the new default voice.
However if you have other computer voices
installed on your computer system and would
prefer to use them instead, this tutorial
will show you how to set the default voice.
In this tutorial I’m using Windows 7 but
in other operating systems such as Microsoft
Vista and even XP it is a similar process.
First of all go to the Windows Start menu
and select Control Panel. When the Control
Panel opens find and select the Speech Recognition
item. When the Speech Recognition window opens
select Text to Speech.
You can see that I have 3 different computer
voices installed. This is what Microsoft Anna
sounds like and this is what Heather sounds
like. I’m going to choose Heather. Finally,
select Okay and close the Control Panel window.
You have now set the default voice in Windows.
Thank you for watching and listening to this
tutorial.
