On the relevance of education… I don’t think I can speak to what makes education relevant in a global sense because I think it’s one of those things… learning is like love… it’s something that I think is very personal and is different for different people. Speaking for myself, when I was a student I was the kid who sat at the back of the room, who didn’t seem to be very engaged and I was probably someone who very easily could have went in directions when education didn’t speak to me. I was fortunate to have two or three wonderful learning experiences at important times in my life, and it's enriched my life and that’s why I still work in this field. So speaking for myself, and I think that’s the only person I can speak for, I’m interested in approaches to education that reach out to groups for whatever reason aren't engaged in. Sometimes it’s issues of poverty, sometimes it’s issues of access but in many cases like for me, often it is an issue of how education is framed, what kind of invitation is being issued to the people involved in education. I like to think that’s my very small interest within this very big and important field.
